Dairy free chocolate reindeer
These Dairy free chocolate reindeer are based on some images of something similar that has been doing the rounds on Facebook..I’ve just tried to switch a few things around to make it work for our family…hopefully it works for yours too 🙂 This version is dairy, egg and nut free…if you used something instead of the pretzels for antlers, it would be gluten free as well. I’ll be honest and say they are slightly drunk-looking reindeer but my Miss 10 made most of these and it was a bit of a last minute thing…but we had lots of fun doing it and they taste great.
Dairy Free Chocolate Truffles
We always give baking to friends, family and teachers to say thanks for their support and kindness during the year..and truffles are nearly always a feature. All our baking is egg, dairy and nut free with some gluten free ones as well; nobody has ever complained about the taste: in fact, I expect most haven’t even noticed! We also usually make up a big bowl of this truffle mixture then melt a little bit to dip fruit in for a special dessert treat with all the yummy Summer fruit we are enjoying right now. You can really add whatever you like to this truffle mixture but I’ve just added our suggestions with the recipe.
Chocolate Peppermint Christmas Slice
Honestly, this is only very loosely Christmas-related but everybody LOVES it! Other than the peppermint-hating crowd….We actually make the slice year round but add these decorations on the top for Christmas. We cut it into slices and add it to our selection of Christmas baking we gift to our wonderful teachers and friends. This recipe is dairy, egg and nut free. It could be made gluten-free by using gluten free chocolate biscuits (I have used the Leda peppermint ones and its quite delicious!), and checking the marshmallows and icing sugar are gluten free.
White Christmas Slice
This White Christmas Slice is not my original recipe (there are many versions floating around the internet such as this one), but one I have adapted slightly to work for our allergy household. It is part of the Christmas cookie/baking selection we make every year to gift to family, friends and teachers. It is dairy, egg, nut, and gluten free so okay for all of my kids and they love it! Truthfully Miss 5 painstakingly picks out all the currants but other than that it’s a huge success. It also keeps for a couple of weeks in sealed containers in the fridge 🙂
We were really lucky recently to receive a box full of cute collage items for making Xmas decorations from a dear friend. In it were a few boxes of plain Xmas balls, lots of glue and glitter and a pile of brightly coloured napkins. A couple of years ago we had decoupaged plain coasters with Xmas serviettes and they were pretty cute, plus have lasted really well, so we thought we would have a go doing it with these balls. The kids had a fab time in the process!
In our house, we just LOVE Christmas. I’m all about establishing traditions with my daughters and we have devised all these wacky, wonderful food creations which seem to begin earlier and earlier every year. My daughters all inherited a love of anything peppermint from my amazing Mum, and this peppermint candy cane-flavoured (as if they should be any other flavour! But apparently some people love tropical flavoured ones…yuk!) ice-cream with chocolate shards is pretty much the best thing about the start of the Christmas season.
